The Second Annual Madisonville Fest was a Huge Success!
Thanks to Kathy Garrison and what seemed like a million volunteers, the 2nd Annual Madisonville Street Fest was a great success! This year the festival extended over four days and took place at three activity "hubs" within the community; Days 1 & 2 (Wednesday and Thursday evenings) saw the kids being treated to fun learning opportunities at New Life Temple. Day 3 (Friday evening) brought an "ice cream social" to Bramble Park. Day 4 (Saturday afternoon and early evening) rounded out the festivities at the corners of Madison and Whetsel, with the fun extending a block in each direction to make room for a range of activities. A stage was set up in the parking lot of the southeast corner of Madison and Whetsel. Throughout the day residents and visitors were treated to reggae, gospel, rock and blues. There was plenty of food and drink and games for the children. Informational booths were set up to highlight services available to the residents and there were demonstrations of woodworking and pottery making. The MAC also had entertainment and displayed plans for the spectacular developments that are rising in Madisonville.
A special thanks to all our sponsors who made it possible for the festival goers to enjoy everything for free! More details to follow...
Soap Box Derby
Madisonville made a great showing at the 2008 Soap Box Derby with a $5,000.00 purse sponsored by Mayor Mark Mallory. The number of entries doubled to almost 70 cars this year.
We didn't take home the prize, but Chuck, Mike and Aja did a great job representing the community and placed near the top of the pack. Everyone had a great time, so we will certainly be back next year. Madisonville had 3 of the finest cars on the track, and 3 of the sharpest drivers!
Thanks to all of our sponsors; we couldn't have done it without you!
Stay tuned for a photo gallery of the participants...

Madisonville CPOP Team Awarded $15,000 Met Life Grant
When Madison Villa residents experienced problems a few years ago, they looked to the Madisonville Community Problem Oriented Policing (CPOP) Team and District 2 Officer Dwayne Dawson. They were able to determine the problems and discover ways to assist in applying CPOP efforts to minimize their impact. Once solutions were identified the team began a grant writing effort to secure funding to address the problems. Reports were requested from CPOP, the Youth Street Worker Program and the Community Police Partnering Center. On August 1, 2008, Officer Dawson was able to inform the CPOP team that they were the recipients of a $15,000 Met Life grant. This grant was issued to only 5 out of 500 applications. Thanks to the CPOP Team, Officer Dawson and Doreen Cudnik of the CPPC, Madison Villa residents will be safer and the quality of life better in the years to come. A job well done!

We have a new neighbor in Madisonville. The Madisonville Art Center (affectionately known as "The MAC") is open and presenting some of the finest entertainment in the area. After a fun day of festivities, The MAC opened its theater with the play "Jitney", by August Wilson, a renowned African-American playwright. Because of the terrific response, the Queen City Off-Broadway Company, directed by Lyle Benjamin, will be offering additional weekend performances in August. If you missed it the first time, hurry over and check it out! Please use the link to The MAC for show times.
We couldn't be happier that we have a great new venue for local and regional artists. We see the center as a cornerstone in the future of Madisonville. If you haven't been, go! There are special performances and "neighborhood nights" with special pricing, so you don't have an excuse not to get out and have some fun.
